Miramontes and Virgen win at Boqueron
BOQUERON, Cabo Rojo, July 23, 2010 - Dominican Republic,
Jamaica, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Puerto Rico and Mexico came out
victorious in their first day at the Central American and
Caribbean Games at Boqueron.
Mexicans Aldo Miramontes and Juan Virgen solved their first
match easily against Joseph Clercent and Dayne Williams of St.
Lucia by score of 21-5 and 21-10. “We’re going for a medal,
knowing that there are other strong contenders, like Venezuela
that also take part of the SWATCH FIVB World Tour with us and
Puerto Rico, who as home team, will be a tough rival,” expressed
Miramontes.
Roberto Rodriguez and Orlando Irizarry of Puerto Rico closed the
day by winning against Winston Calderon and Dany Lopez from
Nicaragua, who gave resistance, but finally the win was for
Puerto Rico by 2-0 (21-14, 21-15).
“We hope to win on Sunday against El Salvador and be first in
our group” indicated Roberto Rodriguez, Puerto Rico’s captain.
Irizarry added “we’re happy to win in front of our fans.”
Dominicans, Yewddys Perez y German Recio defeated Carl Collins y
Kemoroy Percival of St. Kitts & Nevis; Mark. Lewis y Dany Wilson
of Jamaica also won over Kirk Shervin Rankin y Olney Dean
Thompson of Cayman Islands.
Alexander Villegas and Jonathan Guevara of Costa Rica won over
Fabien Luciano Whitfield and Daniel O’Brien Williams of Trinidad
& Tobago. Also, Guatemalans Erick Garrido and Julio Recinos won
against Luis Baide and Manuel Serrano of Honduras.
